afvd_logo.jpgDAY 8, July 11th, 2011

We spent most of the first half of the day figuring out exactly what when wrong last night and getting those things corrected. After an early start we fixed our issues by lunchtime. After lunch we switched from correction mode to preparation mode for our game tomorrow vs Australia.

Although Australia is tough and fight hard, they just don’t have the technical skills to be able to hang with us. This is, of course, just my personal opinion and is meant in no disrespect to the Aussies. I am good friends with their Head Coach- John Leijten, who is a former NFL E Assistant Coach with the Amsterdam Admirals. John is a very good coach and has been doing a fine job in putting together & preparing his team.

I had to laugh a little though, as someone from their staff had Max and myself removed from the sideline as we were there to scout a little of their game against USA. Oddly enough they didn’t have a problem with us being there during their opening game against Mexico. I found it funny because when you are playing the Americans, two coaches hanging out on the sideline are the least of your problems. Max and I just kind of laughed it off and headed into the stands to watch the rest of the game. It was one of those ‘Really?....Seriously?’ moments.

I expect us to play with much more confidence and enthusiasm than in our previous two games. Thanks once again to our outstanding medical staff the boys should be all ready to go. Because of our strong depth, we have the luxury of resting 2-3 players to have them 100% for the final game in Wien. It is looking more and more like we will face the Austrians next Saturday for 5th place. Naturally, we still need to win our game tomorrow and Austria of course, still needs to beat France on Wednesday. If this happens it will be a very excited finish to the tournament for us. It will be a wild atmosphere in a full house. But first we have some serious business to take care of……...
