DAY 11, July 14th, 2011
Today was another well needed physically light day, well at least for those not on our medical staff. They were even busier than normal getting our guys healed and recovered. I can’t say enough good things about them as they work endlessly massaging and treating our players. We did get out and have a practice this afternoon. I think for the players it was nice just to get out of the hotel and move around a little. We kept the practice light and short, focusing mainly on our special teams and our passing game.
I must say, I miss our hotel in Innsbruck (the Grauer Bär) more than just a little. The staff there bent over backwards to make us feel at home, the location was perfect and the food was outstanding, not to mention the free WLAN anywhere in the hotel. If anyone is ever looking for a hotel in Innsbruck, the Grauer Bär is a must!
Our main focus today was of course, preparing for the French. We are all a little surprised that Austria lost that game against France, well everyone except Max anyway. He actually had France winning, but I think that was just him going against the grain. We were surprised not because we thought France was a bad team, but playing at home and giving Canada a good run for their money we thought Austria would ride that momentum to victory over the French.
So, France it is…… and after spending most of the day watching film and putting our game plan together it is clear that the French very skilled and athletic, but I do think we match up pretty well against them. I think we are all pleased to have an extra day of recovery before going back to battle on Saturday.
In working as a staff, putting together our scouting report, I am once again reminded what a quality group of coaches we have here. The fact that we all get along so well together, makes this experience just that more enjoyable. So now, it’s time to polish up our game plan some more tomorrow and continue to get ready for the big day Saturday.
Servus!
