Win # 1 for the Munich Cowboys in 2007 was more than a win on the field. It was a big win for everyone in the Munich Cowboys organization. Many people have worked very hard to return the Cowboys to respectability - to end the "chaos" of the past years. This effort begins with the Management and the Board of the Club, who have taken responsibility, made difficult decisions, and put in many hours of work. Also, there are people who support the Club and work in the background and contribute time and work to the game day effort. And finally we have assistant coaches and players who have worked hard to reach their goal of having a winning team. For many, this is a sacrifice from their personal and family life and their jobs.

Playing the first game at Wiesbaden was a difficult challenge. The Phantoms were 13 -1 last year and for the past 2 seasons were vice champions of the 2nd League South. Only a few points kept them from the Relegation series in 2006. While many people around the Cowboys hoped for a win, I think there were many who believed in their hearts that a "good showing" or, a "respectable loss" would be an ok beginning.

Whatever chaos and problems were a part of Cowboy life in past years, the one thing that has remained strong is the Cowboy spirit. The heart of an individual athlete in any sport is strong and resolute. On the field in Wiesbaden last week the Cowboys players showed that spirit and heart. They played a hard fought, physical and close scoring game. The offense, defense, and kicking units all made big plays and the result was a 14-7 team victory. Win #1 of 2007 was a win for not only the players, but also for everyone who is a part of the Munich Cowboy organization.
